Glossary

Carbide
A compound composed of carbon and a less electronegative element.
CermaClad™
CermaClad™ is a high production metal cladding process for pipe and plate steel. It uses a high density infrared arc lamp to fuse a uniform layer of powdered metal composite such as copper -nickel, metallic glass, silicon-nickel, and tungsten, to the underlying steel surface. Read More...
Cermet
A material consisting of processed ceramic particles bonded with metal and used in high-strength and high-temperature applications.
Clad, Cladding
To bond a metal to (another metal), esp. to provide with a protective coat.
Corrosion
A state of deterioration in metals caused by oxidation or chemical action.
Epoxy
A thermosetting resin; used chiefly in strong adhesives and coatings and laminates.
Hexavalent Chromium
Chemical compounds that contain the element chromium in the +6 oxidation state. Hexavalent chromium is used for the production of stainless steel, textile dyes, wood preservation, leather tanning, and as anti-corrosion and conversion coatings as well as a variety of niche uses. Recognized as a human carcinogen via inhalation.
Mesostructure
A structure or superstructure of intermediate size or complexity (in any of several fields).
Nanostructure
An object of intermediate size between molecular and microscopic (micrometer-sized) structures.
PComP™
A particulate composite powder that combines nanoscale ceramics and metals in a "duplex" structure combining a nanocomposite core encapsulated with a metal coating. Read More...
Substrate
Any stratum or layer lying underneath another.
